Tuesday Tutorial: Lamp Revamp

Haha!  I’m not only trying to be crafty, I’m attempting to be a witty writer as well:)

So the bedroom is coming together, and I’m super excited!!!  The bed gets delivered tomorrow, then we get to go find bedding, make some pillows, find some accessories, woohoo!!  I’m loving it!

Ok, so today, I’m going to show you how to add some pizazz to a boring ol lampshade!

Supplies:

  • a boring ol lampshade
  • fabric scraps
  • scissors
  • thread
  • sewing machine
  • hot glue
  • paint

So I bought this lamp set at Walmart, for $10!!!  I knew I had fabric and paint at home to give it a little facelift!

Step 1:

If you choose to paint your base, unscrew the top shade, and tape it off.

Using a small paintbrush, paint a couple of layers on the base and let dry for 24 hours.

I chose to paint some black faux antique paint along the cracks and crevices to give it a distressed look.

Step 2:

Measure your lampshade to determine the size of your vertical ruffles.

Double that measurement and cut your strips to be double that length.

I chose to make the strips 2 inches wide.

Step 3:

Sew your ruffles!  Set your sewing machine to the longest stitch setting and sew a straight stitch down the center of the ruffle.  Pull the end of one piece of thread to gather the fabric and create a cute little ruffle!

Step 4:

After you cut the threads, fold each end of the ruffle over and attach with glue

Start with one end of the lampshade, and make a line of hot glue.  Attach the ruffle pressing firmly against the lampshade.

Making your way around the lampshade, attach the rest of the ruffles.

That’s it, you’re done!!

I’m kinda liking this little ol lamp:)
