Tuesday Tutorial: Ruffled Fabric Christmas Wreath

I attempted my first Christmas wreath last year, but it was definitely time for a new one…  I wanted to use my material of choice, fabric of course!!

I’ve seen lots of fabric wrapped wreaths all over the blogland, but wanted to add ruffles for dimension, and of course some rosettes!!

Supplies:

  • straw wreath form (I used an 18 -inch diameter)
  • 1 1/8 yd of coordinating fabric
  • embellishments
  • hot glue gun
  • ribbon
  • monogram
  • spray paint
  • cutting mat and rotary cutter

Step 1:

Spray paint your letter on both sides.  I added another coat of gold glitter spray for some sparkly bling:)  Let dry for a couple of hours before handling.

Step 2:

Cut your fabric into 2 1/2 inch strips.  Set aside 4 strips to use for rolled fabric rosettes.  Cut two in half again to create various sizes. (go HERE for rosette tutorial)

Step 3:

With remaining strips of fabric, sew a gathering stitch (the longest setting on  your sewing machine) down the center of each strip.

With each strip, pull the bobbin thread to gather the fabric.  Pull until the entire strip forms a ruffle.  Do this with remaining strips.

Step 4:

Attach each ruffle to the straw wreath by pinning one end and wrapping it around.  Continue with each ruffle pinning and wrapping using whatever pattern you prefer.

Step 5:

Attach rosettes with hot glue.  Add any embellishments.

Tie a ribbon around the monogram letter and tie around the top of the wreath with a bow.

And you’re done!!  Simple huh, and enough sparkle and bling to add some sassy Christmas spirit to your front door!
