Monday Yummies: Peanut Butter Pie

This is a classic!!  Delicious, rich, sooooo yummy…  So yummy that you eat it out of the pie plate with a fork.  I’m not saying “I” was the one that ate it out of the pie plate, but “someone” in our house sure did:)

This one comes from the kitchen of Sister’s Cafe

Peanut Butter Pie

Crust: (I actually just used a graham cracker crust and it turned out fabulous)

25 vanilla wafers, crushed
1/2 cup finely chopped peanuts (without skins)
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 Tb sugar

Preheat oven to 350. Combine vanilla wafers, peanuts, sugar and melted butter together and press into a 10 inch pie plate. Bake for 15 minutes. Cool.

Filling:
1 cup smooth peanut butter
8oz cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup heavy cream
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 Tb real butter, melted
1/2-1 cup Hot Fudge Sauce (recipe included or a good store brand)

In a large bowl, cream peanut butter, cream cheese, butter and sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed. Blend well. Whip the heavy cream in a separate bowl until stiff, add vanilla. Fold into the peanut butter mixture. Fold gently until mixture is consistent and smooth. Pour into cooled crust and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Thin hot fudge sauce by heating slightly. Allow to cool to just warm to touch. (It should not be hot that it would melt the filling). Spread a thin layer of fudge sauce over chilled pie. The fudge may be left smooth or incorporated into a slight flower or ribbon pattern by running a spatula or knife through the fudge to make a design. chill pie for at least 6 hours.

Hot Fudge Sauce:

(Once again, I skimped and went with a store brand, it was totally fine!)
1 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
2 1oz squares unsweetened chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 Tb real butter

Combine milk and chocolate and cook over low heat until chocolate is melted and mixture thickens. Add vanilla and butter. Store covered in the refrigerator.

Enjoy!!!

V-day Candy Jar Makeover

***  Don’t forget to enter our Valentines Day Giveaway for a chance to win one of Marina’s darling hand-made purses HERE***

Ok, so this was my attempt idea to stay clear of the candy this season.  You know, once it’s in a cute jar it becomes more of a decoration and it’s harder to eat…

Ha Ha!!  That was a good one huh!

Yeah, I just keep buying bags of M&M’s to re-fill it everyday  every week.

So I started out with this…

(I know, I’m kind of chocolate obsessed, just moving from one candy to the next)

And ended up with this!

This is just my little corner counter display:)

I think I need another handful of M&Ms!!

I’ll catchya later:)

Feature Friday: Let’s Get Organized!!

My husband has been kicking my butt this year, with the whole, “de-junking, de-cluttering, organizational hype”  going on all around us… Yes, you heard me right, my husband!!!

That’s how I’ve always felt btw;  like everyone else can do it, but not me!  I wouldn’t even KNOW where to start!!!

Well, slowly but surely I’ve been giving it a go,

  • crafting space… CHECK
  • kitchen pantry… CHECK
  • linen closet… CHECK
  • storage room… CHECK

Don’t worry, I’ve got pictures coming, (as soon as I get some guts to try out my new Silhouette)

So for now, check out these brilliant organizational spaces and ideas, I don’t know about you, but I could sure use a dose of inspiration about now…

I LOVE this closet turned sewing room over at Gwenny Penny!!

This pantry is pretty awesome!  I LOVE the tags tied around the canisters and crates… Go over to the Stories from A 2 Z to see it all!

Check out these practical tips from Three Boys on how to keep your home clean throughout the day!!

Thanks to all you amazingly creative cleaners out there!  Now I’m feeling a bit ambitious:)

Sooooo Sad to See Her Go…

My little sis is leaving us…  She’s spent the last 8 months in our home, sharing a room with my daughter, and it has been an amazing, beautiful, learning experience for all of us.

She turned 18 last week…(holy cow, where did the time go!!)

And she’s going back home to graduate with her peeps.

We worked on re-decorating a bedroom for her while she was here,

We laughed a lot,

Played a lot,

Loved a lot,

She’s been my model,

And my best friend,

She’s literally been, part of our family, and will always have a special bond with all of us…

I made her this quilt for Christmas, knowing she would take it with her, wherever she decided to go…

I’m so sad to see her go, but I know she’s so excited to be going back home…

I LOVE my sis!!!!

Tuesday Tutorial: Love Note Pouches

We are so excited for Valentines Day!!  What are some of your traditions?  We like to write notes, and make cards, my kids especially:)  I have a whole drawer full of notes and pictures from my kids.  They are a little obsessed, but I think it is kinda cute…

So, they were my inspiration for my tutorial this week!  I wanted to make little pouches for them to put their notes in, or that mom and dad could sneak little notes in as well.

Ok, but first, here’s my disclaimer… My camera is broken, (not that it was that great to begin with) but now I am stuck with my camera phone, hmmm.  So I apologize for my pictures!!

Ok, ready for the tutorial!

Supplies:

  • fabric
  • felt
  • embroidery floss
  • tulle
  • cutting board
  • rotary cutter and ruler
  • wooden board
  • spray paint
  • knobs

Step 1:

Cut your fabric.  Decide on the size you would like.  I wanted my squares to be about 8 inches, so I started with a square that was 9 inches, and the other, I cut 13 inches.

Cut your lining fabric to be the same size.  (Forgot to take a picture).

You can keep your flap completely square, or if you’d like some shape, cut a bit of a triangle to the edge.

Step 2:

Add contrast and embellish.  I added a strip of black floral to the back.

For the front, I wanted some ricrac, and some tiny little hearts along the side.

I wanted to try embroidery floss to personalize each of my kids’ pouches, so I stitched my kids’ nicknames and some details along the edges.  Make sure you embellish before you sew everything together.

Step 3:

Ok, now we sew everything together!  Place your pieces (both outer fabrics and lining) right sides together.  Sew about 1/4 inch seam starting at the top edge, and follow along to the other side, and back stitich.

Now, clip the corners and turn the lining right side out.  Press along the edges and along the bottom to flatten all your seams.

Slide the lining inside the pouch, lining up all edges as best you can.  (I asked my husband to grab 1/3 yd of some red fabric… Iwas hoping for polka dot, paisley, floral, stripes, but he came home with gingham, hmmm.)  LOVE him!!  At least it’s the lining, and I don’t think my 6 yr-old minds.  Sorry if I sound like a fabric snob:)

 Step 4:

Pin in place, (sorry no photo).  Start about 2 inches from the pouch opening, and stitch toward the corner edge.  Continue stitching, and make a right angle at the corners, follow along the flap and finish about 2 inches for away from the opposite corner edge, leaving about a 4 inch opening right in front.  Now, find each corner where your stitching makes a right angle.  Clip that corner, being careful not to cut through your stitching.

(Sorry, I totally forgot to photograph this entire step!!!)

Now, pull everything up through the opening, and push the lining back down inside the pouch.  Straighten everything and press in place.  Fold the edges inside about 1/4 inch and stitch the opening closed, continuing along the entire flap.

Now add some velcro to keep everything closed.

Step 5:

Add your knobs to your board.  Grab a board at Home Depot, or use something you have on hand.  This was a wooden board I decided to re-use and re-paint.  It started out green…

And ended up black.  Nice, chic, neutral.

Use a drill to place a hole in each spot you would like your knobs to be placed.  (I found these ones at Hobby Lobby)  Screw the knobs all the way in.

Step 6:

Grab some ribbon or tulle, and tie around your pouches.  I found that I needed to add a strip of felt to the top of the pouch, where the tulle wraps around.  Just to give it some stability when it’s hanging from the knobs.

I made a little pouch out of felt to store the paper and notecards.

Hang up your pouches, and you’re good to go!!
