Tuesday Tutorial: from drab to fab, Chiffon Ruffle Canvas Bag
Our tutorial today involves, ruffles! Surprise. We are pretty much obsessed with ruffles over on Just Sew Sassy. Check out some of our other ruffle tutorials HERE
This is a ruffled chiffon flower canvas bag.

We’ll show ya how to make your very own…
Supplies:
a canvas bag (new or used)
3 different shades of chiffon fabric (I used leftover scraps)
a button or any other embellishments you would like
a needle and thread
rotary cutter and cutting mat
sewing machine
Step 1:
Cut your fabric strips.

I had leftover strips from THIS project and THIS one too, but you’ll need strips about 2 inches wide and 44 inches long. This is the breakdown: Center of the flower=1 strip of chiffon, 2nd color= 2 strips of chiffon, outer color=4 strips of chiffon. So, you will cut 7 total strips for each side of the bag.
Step 2:
Sew a gathering strip (the longest stitch setting on your sewing machine) down the center of each strip. Pull the bobbin thread, or one of the threads on the end of the ruffle until it begins to gather and ruffle. Do this for all your strips.

(In this picture, only some of the ruffles are shown, sorry if it’s confusing!)
Step 3:
Start at the center of the bag and hand stitch the ruffle in a circular spiral design. Start the next color right where the first color ended. Follow the same spiral pattern, and repeat with all the ruffle strips.

Sew the button to the center of the flower, and you’re done!
Do the same thing on the other side for double the fun!!

Perfect for church, road trips, the pool, or a day at the beach!
