Monday: What I Pinned…

How did you do last week?  Was it one of those “I just think that’s really cute, so I think I’ll pin it.” kind of weeks, or did you gather enough inspiration to create something!!

I am happy to report that I finished a few projects this week!!  We painted some pumpkins (thank you Pink Sugar Photography), I got some sweet business cards made with a QR code, (thanks Craftaholics Anonymous) AND I made a necklace display holder for our boutique (thanks to Lolly Jane).

Don’t worry.  I have pictures and a tutorial coming up this week (as soon as I can figure out how to get it linked up to my new foreign computer!!)

So you see.  I AM making progress!!

So I have a couple more “projects” pinned for these next coming weeks…

Our front door is in DESPERATE need of a paint job, I’m talking paint peeling, outdated white metal rails, not my fav.  Don’t you think this front door is darling!!!  I bought some paint for the rails, now to pick the perfect color for our door…

So… be honest.  Is it too soon to start thinking Christmas?  I’ve got tonz of ideas pinned, and I think that after Halloween, I’m gonna start some of these projects.

Starting with Christmas PJ’s!  Every year I make my kids new jammies to open on Christmas Eve, and I figure I need to get an early start on the “handmade” projects.  I think these ornament appliques are darling!!  (For my daughter of course:)

So what did you pin this week?  Have you checked out Pinterest yet?  If you need an invite, let me know and I’ll send one over to ya:)

Happy pinning!!  and creating…

My Teacher’s Apron

I’m not saying I have a teacher.  My kids all have teachers.  This was an apron I made for my sons’ teacher, and heck you could make it for your kids’ teacher too:)

I’m trying to say that it’s a “teacher apron” meant to be worn by a teacher…

Ok, now that we have that cleared up:)

What do you think?

Mrs. Booth said she wanted a “bright, colorful apron”  I was happy to oblige:)  It’s definitely got bright and colorful going on!!

I think I need to make ME a bright colorful apron, come to think of it:)

Tuesday Tutorial: Wickedly Yarn Wrapped Halloween Wreath

So I absolutely ADORE my kids’ preschool teacher!   She’s seriously amazing.  So I was thrilled when she asked me to dress up her class door with a Halloween wreath.

I’ve seen lots of yarn wrapped wreaths all over Blogland, and decided to make my own version.

So, go grab some supplies and let’s get started!

Step 1:

You can even mark your foam wreath where you want the different colors to begin and end, (before wrapping it with yarn.)

This is optional, but I think it adds a little something special:)

Step 2:

Attach the letters to twine with hot glue, and wrap the twine around the wreath.

Step 3:

For a simple tutorial on how to make some felt flowers, go HERE.

Hang up your Wicked Wreath just in time for trick-or-treaters!!

Halloween is almost here!!  Hope it’s a fun week for everyone!!!

Monday: What I Pinned…

So should I report on last week?  I AM making progress with my pins!!  We DID paint pumpkins this week (stay tuned for that post) and I BOUGHT all the supplies for my lovely jewelry display organizer.

So you see.  I AM making progress!!

But I have a couple more things on my “Pinterest”agenda for this week:)

I am in desperate need of business cards!  My lovely talented friend who designed our Maddie Mae Lane logo and shop is finishing those up for us.  But we are sooo adding this QR code.

It’s genius!!  Thanks for showing us how Linda!!

And THIS is a tutorial I have been trying to find FOREVER!!!!  I really want to make my own framed mirror.  I have the perfect spot in my house to hang it, I just gotta make it!!  I’m determined to do it!!

I’ll keep ya posted on this one, it’s a bit intimidating:)

Did you guys pin anything fun this week?  Have you checked out Pinterest yet?  If you need an invite, let me know and I’ll send one over to ya:)

DIY Cake Stand, & a Dessert that’s to die for!

So I’ve kind of taken a dessert making hiatus.  I normally LOVE baking, especially with chocolate:)

My little brother just turned the big 30, and requested one of my cakes…

I found this gorgeously delicious looking cake while browsing Pinterest, and knew I had to try it.  It was sooo rich, decadent, and YUM-O, definitely a special occasion cake.

So for all the cakes, pies, and desserts I make, you’d think I’d have something to show them off, right…

I’m embarrassed to say, I have yet to add this little necessity to my bakeware essentials.

So I decided to make my own!!

In a few simple steps you can make your very own cake stand too!!

  • Grab a few plastic platters from Hobby Lobby

  • Glue the bowl to the platter with E3000

  • Spray a few coats of spray paint, allow to dry completely  (I LOVE this glittery aqua color!!)

That’s it!  You’re done!!

Now you have a beautiful platter to display your beautiful dessert!!

*Make sure you use a paper liner or doily under the dessert, the paint is definitely not food safe…

The recipe for the cake can be found HERE, Enjoy!!!

Guest Tutorial: Bat Cake Toppers

I’m excited to introduce you to Bonnie and Trish from Uncommon!  I’m in love with their blog, and you will be too!!

Go say hi, and check out some fun tutorials,

projects,

and more…

Can’t wait to see what these talented ladies have to share with us today!!  Take it away ladies!!

065

We are so excited to be guest posting at Just Sew Sassy today!  We are Bonnie and Trish from the blog, Uncommon. We are going to share one of our all-time favorite Halloween party decorations… bat cake toppers!

bat ct supplies

Trace one bat onto the black paper for each cake topper. I used a wooden cut-out from Michaels for my template.

052b

Cut out the bats.

054

Hot glue the florist wire to the back of the bat.

I washed mine, patted it dry, and colored it black with a non-toxic marker, but you could leave it white or silver.

056

Now place them in your cake at different heights.  You may need to clip your wire to make it shorter.  That’s it!  I was so excited to use my new cake stand!  Isn’t it so adorable?  Stay tuned for the tutorial on the cake stands on our blog, Uncommon!

Staci, thanks so much for having us today at Just Sew Sassy!

Bonnie and Trish

Thanks so much for sharing these darling bats with us!!  Can’t wait to try these out with my kids!!
