Tuesday Tutorial: Halloween Ribbon Ornaments & a Giveaway!!
Hey ladies!! (And dudes too, if you’re out there), I always wonder who really reads this blog… ya know?
Sorry, I know random.
We’re making a super fun and totally simple craft today for Halloween. I made these for my son’s spooky birthday party this weekend! They’re darling little Halloween ribbon ornaments.
Oh BTW, make sure and check out the bottom of this post for a pretty cool Just Sew Sassy announcement:)
Sorry, on to the tutorial…
Halloweeen Ribbon Ornaments
Supplies:
- lots of Halloween colored ribbon for the ornaments and thinner ribbon for hanging
- precut circles of Halloween paper, you’ll need about 10 each of 2 sizes (I used the base of a spool of thread to make one size, and a glue stick to make the other, haha original right:)
- buttons
- glue gun and sticks
- scissors or rotary cutter and mat
Step 1:
Cut your ribbon. I’m going to show you how to make three different ornaments. I started by cutting the ribbon into strips for each one of the ornaments.
For the first one, cut 3 strips of ribbon about 7 inches in length.
For the next one, cut 3 strips of ribbon 4 inches in length, and then cut the ends to form an inverted “v” shape.

Sorry, I forgot to take a picture of this step with the green ribbon, but its just like this.
For the last ornament, cut 4 strips of ribbon about 5 1/2 inches in length.
Step 2:
-K- you’re done with the cutting, next comes the hot glue! (Keep in mind, you can also sew these together, but I thought the hot glue would be a faster, easier route for me)
Going back to the first ornament. Glue the ends together to form a circle.
Then place a dab of glue in the inside center, and squish down to form a bowtie shape.
Repeat with the the two other ribbons.
Then glue the three bowtie shapes together, one on top of the other to form a flower shape.
-K- we’ll come back to this one in a sec.
Moving on to the second ornament. Glue each of the 3 ribbons on top of one another to form a star shape.
And, moving on to the third ornament.
Fold the ribbon in half to form a loop, and secure the end with glue.
Repeat with all four ribbons. Then glue one loop on top of the other to form a different kind of flower shape.
Step 3:
Next, you gotta glue the paper centers to your ornaments. You can mix and match, and even throw in some buttons if you prefer:)
Just hot glue those little circles (and or buttons) right to the center of your shapes.
Step 4:
Glue the skinnier ribbon together to form a loop, and attach it to the back of the ornament with you guessed it, more hot glue!
Voila!!
-K- so I totally forgot or somehow deleted the last picture of my looped ornament, but you can see a few of them hanging on my spooky branches…
And here’s a shot of the birthday party spread…
