So are we super lucky or what?? Dana is sharing one of her fabulous vintage tutorials with us today!

Take it away Dana…

Hello Just Sew Sassy readers! I am so excited to be here today!  My name is Dana and I am an artist/designer/plush creator from Ontario, Canada. You can find me over at my blog Wonder Forest on a daily basis!  I also have an Etsy shop for my plush critters.  Now let’s get on with it!!! If I told you that this vintage soda pop crate only cost me .25 cents, would you believe it!?

Well guess what, thanks to a little garage sale digging, and some at-home supplies it did, and I’m going to show you how to create your own .25 cent masterpiece. Alright, I can’t guarantee that yours will cost only .25 cents as well, that all depends on what you have at home already. ;)   I found this handmade shelf thing at a garage sale for (you guessed it) .25 cents!  Sure, the workmanship was a little sloppy, but I kind of liked it that way.  When I got it home I spray painted it with one coat of Rustoleum white and scuffed up the edges.

It kind of reminded me of one of those old pop crates that they used to use back in the day, so I grabbed my handy dandy Cricut machine and set out on my new project.  I used my Plantin Schoolbook cartridge to cut out the letters that would be my new stencil.  I set them at about 2.5″ tall.  If you don’t have one of these magic machines, you can always just use a stencil or cut your own!

When my little bug dude stopped cutting, I peeled the paper away to reveal my new stencil.  (make sure to keep the inside pieces of the O’s and P’s, etc. because you will need them!)

Then I cut out the words and taped them onto the side of my shelf.  This is where you’ll want to tape the middle of your P’s and O’s down too.

Next, I grabbed a trusty old stamp pad and a rag and went to work. Immediately I loved the look that the ink was giving the letters. Just like old vintage letters were stamped on the side of the crate!  I dabbed and scrubbed the ink in lightly.

When I was done I was so excited to peel the stencil off to see my creation!  Here we go….

LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! All this shelf/crate needed now were some hooks to hang it by…. I snagged these off of an old picture frame and screwed them into the top:

Then the fun part came… hanging it and filling it up!!

Easy as pie!! No one will ever know it only cost me .25 cents!  I now challenge you to make your own for .25 cents or less!! I hope to see you all over in my neck of the woods soon! Thank you so much Staci for having me! xo Dana

I love keeping busy and sharing all my projects and adventures whether they be Home decor, holiday projects, or discovering how to get permanent marker off granite counter tops.

Blog Swap and Christmas Cards Giveaway!!

I was sooo excited when my good friend Stacy, approached me about sponsering a giveaway on our blog.  In the 4 years that I’ve known her, I’ve always been super amazed at her talent, skills, and the way she can just sort of pull anything off.  Don’t you love people like that:)

She has an awesome giveaway for us this week, to take us right into the Holiday season…  Yep, folks, it’s fast approaching!!

Introducing Stacy St. Felix with Posh ABC’s blog!

The holiday season is quickly approaching! I know my schedule gets pretty booked with all the goodies I bake, shopping to do, gifts to wrap, cards to send, building snowmen, going to parties, etc. I don’t know about you, but for me finding the time and energy to complete all these tasks is nothing short of a miracle…especially this holiday season as I will be 8 months pregnant with my 3rd baby girl!

So, I thought I would get a jump start on my newly established crafty blog, and the holiday season by getting my Christmas cards designed and ready to go before the season officially starts (which in my book is November 1st!). I would like to thank Just Sew Sassy for featuring me on their super cute blog full of fun projects I hope to one day have the sewing skills to do! In the mean time, I’m hoping you crafty folks can help me figure out some fair pricing (for you and me) for my Holiday Cards. I need some feedback on how many cards people usually send out, and when you actually get them mailed out. This way I can figure out when I need to advertise, and I can determine a price that will give you cards competitive with Costco, but doesn’t look like every one’s card who came from Costco. :) In return for your help I will be giving away one of my pre-made Holiday Cards (your choice) to 2 lucky participants!

To enter here is what you have to do:

For 1 entry into the giveaway:
1. Visit Posh ABC’s blog Holiday Card selection.
2. Leave a comment on Posh ABC’s Holiday Card page with your favorite(s) card, how many cards you usually send out for the Holiday’s, and when you usually put them in the mail.

For 2 entries into the giveaway:
1. Visit Posh ABC’s blog Holiday Card selection.
2. Leave a comment on Posh ABC’s Holiday Card page with your favorite(s) card, how many cards you usually send out for the Holiday’s, and when you usually put them in the mail.
3. Become a follower of the Posh ABC’s blog.

All entries must be made by 11:59 pm MST Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Winners will be drawn out randomly, and posted on Just Sew Sassy on Thursday, October 21, 2010. Good Luck!!

Linking up here this week!

Blog Swap with Craft Envy!!

This is Nicholette from Craft Envy and I’m stoked to be here with Staci today! Be sure to swing by Craft Envy to check out our tutorials, and also our Saturday linky party. We have a fun little tutorial for you today, hope you enjoy it!

So the story goes…I wanted to create thank you cards for my son’s birthday that he could help with, and he’s only one…

This is a super simple project that requires very little, as long as you can get your kid to cooperate!

1. Have your child make several hand prints with acrylic paint. I had to make a ton because my one year old didn’t quite understand what I was trying to get him to do.

2. Let the prints dry. Choose the best one and make photocopies of it (or scan it and print it).

3. Cut out the prints and fold a piece of scrapbook paper or cardstock and cut in the shape of the print.

4. Make some little “Thank You” text and glue in the center of the palm. It’s as easy as that!

THANKS, STACI!
