Tuesday Tutorial: Easy Mod Podge Letters

This is a SUPER SIMPLE  tutorial, with a bold look!!  Slowly but surely I’m getting this craft room done:)  What’s a craft room without the words, “sew”???

Wanna make some fancy letters of your own?  Grab your supplies and lets get started:)

Supplies:

  • wooden letters

  • scrapbook paper

  • mod podge and brush

  • exacto knife

  • self healing mat or another protected surface

  • ink pad (optional)

Step 1:

Turn the paper over, and place the letters upside down onto the back of the paper.

Trace each letter with a pencil

Step 2:

Carefully cut out each letter with an exacto knife

Step 3:

Using the brush, apply a think layer of mod podge to the top of the wooden letter

Place the paper on top carefully lining up all of the edges.  Press down firmly on the paper from the center working your way to each end, smoothing out any bubbles.

Apply one more thin layer of mod podge on top of the paper.

Step 4:

I wanted to give my letters a bit more dimension, so I used an ink pad to smear the edges with black ink, giving it even more of a distressed look.

All done!!

Simple right!!

Now hang your letters and enjoy:)

My plan is to paint a cute board to display/store my spools of thread, and hang it right under my letters:)  Just a few more simple projects and this craft room will be done!!!

Tuesday Tutorial: Framed Heart Art Centerpiece

Holy Moly!!!  Where did the week go!!  I mean weekend??  I had a couple of posts planned for this weekend, and umm, they will have to wait until next weekend I guess, sorry about that friends!!

I have a couple more Valentines tutorials for ya, so you can be all decked out ad ready for the day of LOVE!!

Today I’m gonna show ya how to make framed heart art:)

Supplies:

  • an old frame

  • red spray paint

  • scrapbook paper

  • vinyl or cardstock

  • yarn

  • hot glue

First, you’re going to paint your frame.

Next, cut a scrap of paper to go in the frame.

I glued this right to the cardboard piece in the back of my frame.

For this next step you can either use vinyl or cardstock, I chose vinyl b/c I think its easier to work with using the Silhouette.

Find a heart template, or create your own.  I knew I was going to make 3 rows of 3 hearts, so I found a template with three hearts in a row.

Cut out the heart design.

Attach some transfer paper to the vinyl and place it right on the paper.

Repeat until you have the desired amount of rows and hearts.  For the last heart, I used the same template and cut some red patterned paper out of cardstock.

Lastly, use a pencil to trace a word, (I used love) and follow the lines with a hot glue gun.  Immediately add the yarn to the hot glue, and trim after each letter.

And you’re done!!

I found the best invention ever at Hobby Lobby last weekend and had to try it out with this project.  It’s a pom pom maker!!  You basically wind the yarn around, tie it off, snip it, and you’re done.  I filled up an apothecary jar with these little yarn pom poms to coordinate with the  yarn from the frame.

I can’t wait to make a garland with the stuff too!!!

Have fun yarning it up:)

Last Minute Neighbor Gift Ideas!

***If you haven’t entered our baby quilt giveaway go HERE and enter now!!***

Phew!  Just finished passing out the last of them!!  Neighbor gifts!!  I LOVE thinking of new ideas each year, you know something cute and simple…  There were tonz of ideas on Pinterest of course…

For my kids’ teachers, I mod podged a clipboard, addeded some vinyl, cute ribbons, and voila!!

Throw it in a basket with some fun school supplies, a treat, and a card from your student, super easy teacher gift!!

For my neighbors this year I made some tea towels, (see Tutorial HERE) wrapped them around some bread, and tied with a ribbon and a card.

I’ve been on a popcorn kick lately and wanted to throw that in the mix as well.  THIS recipe for caramel corn is soooo good!!

I thought it would be fun to dress up a little jar to hold the popcorn.

Thanks to Silhouette, and their holiday promotion I got this “Joy” Christmas art for free!!  So I added the vinyl to the jar…

mixed the popcorn up inside, and added a square scrap of fabric to the top.

Just tie on a label with a ribbon and you’re good!!

The backs of our labels had our family picture for the year…

What about you?  What gifts did you give this year!!!  You still have 3 more days!!!

Merry Christmas you cuties!

Christmas Advent Garland

My kids are sooo excited for the countdown for Christmas to start!!  Who are we kidding, they already ask me everyday, “How many more days until Christmas??”

A couple more weeks in November, then let the countdown begin!!!

Just decorate some cute little chinese takeout boxes (found at your local party store).  As you can see, my decorations are SUPER simple, then thread a ribbon through the top.  Pin with mini clothespins to some hanging twine!!

This little advent garland just follows the boughs of our lighted pine garland…

And a shot during the daytime…

Can’t wait to fill these little cuties with some fun ideas, traditions, and treats of course!!!  Hope you are all having an excellent weekend!!

Tuesday Tutorial: Easy Patriotic Paper Medallion Banner

I have always loved the look of paper medallions.  They’re sooo festive.  Of course I had to tie them into my 4th of July decor, so I decided to make a banner!!

Would you like to make one for your next 4th of July get together!

Here’s what you’ll need to whip up your own little banner:

  • 7 sheets of coordinating paper

  • 2 or 3 sheets of coordinating cardstock

  • printed letters (I found these on pinterest) go to At Second Street for a free printable

  • twine

  • ribbon for embellishing

  • clothes pins

  • cutting tool

  • ruler

  • hot glue gun

I lined up 3 pieces of paper, and used the ruler to draw lines across all three pieces at a time to create score marks

Now your going to fold the ends together, creating a circle shape.  Hot glue your ends closed, keeping the middle pinched.

I wish I had a mantel to hang this across, but my railing will have to do!!  Super easy fun banner for the 4th!!

Patriotic Pinwheel Centerpiece

***Don’t forget to enter our giveaways happening right now!!  $30 certificate to Happy Potamus Designs, Darling Summer Block Kit, Three patterns from Sew Much Ado, and Vinyl Labels from Lolly Jane***

Ok, so the 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays, and I kinda go all out when it comes to decorating…

Maybe I even go a little overboard:)

I’ve got lots of fun little projects to show ya!!  We’ll start with a simple table centerpiece…

I’m loving the pinwheel trend that I’m seeing all over blogland.  I think they’re darling, and such a simple craft to customize for every holiday!  This is my version…

Make the pinwheel by cutting two squares (I made one 6 inches and the other 4 inches)

Glue the smaller of the squares on top.  Cut slits from each corner, toward the center of the square about 3 inches long.

Fold each corner in (without creasing) and hold together with a brad.

Sorry for the lack of pictures… I just thought this one was easy enough to explain in words:)

Soooo fun huh!!!

Hi There! I am so excited to be here on Just Sew Sassy today! I love Staci and Marina’s Anthro knock-off shirt and Reversible ruffle scarf!

Michelle, from A Little Tipsy here, taking the wheel for the day!

Nope not drunk (what a relief you will not be taking your tour with a drunk driver), I may or may not be a bit clumsy though.

A little about me, I am a SAHM with one crazy 3 year old boy, a 6 week old baby boy, and a big geek for a husband (don’t worry, he calls himself a geek). I love keeping busy and sharing all my projects and adventures whether they be Home decor, holiday projects, or discovering how to get permanent marker off granite counter tops.

So, enough about me…here are a few of my favorite projects.
