Tuesday Tutorial: Rolled Burlap and Rosette Fall Wreath

I’ve decided to try my chances at Crafting with the Stars and thought this burlap wreath would be a fun entry!

Come check it out, and join in the fun!!  Who knows, the number of times my project is viewed may help me out:)

Thanks guys!!

I know, I know!  It’s not even September and I already have my fall decor out!  What can I say, I’m excited!!

I have to say this is my favorite wreath to date!

I LOVE burlap (you will see most of my projects involve burlap this month:)

And I tried this “printing on fabric” technique I saw on Pinterest that I’ve been wanting to try…

Shall we get started!

Here is what you will need…

(I also forgot to mention a drill, a piece of cardstock paper and E-6000 glue) Whoops!!

Step 1:

Nope Canon, it’s really not THAT soft…

Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:

Follow THIS tutorial to make a rolled fabric rosette.

I ran out of rosettes, and needed to fill in a spot, so I made a gathered ruffle flower with my leftover burlap scraps.  Follow THIS tutorial to make a gathered ruffle flower.

Step 5:  Printing on Fabric

Step 6:

You’re DONE!!  Lot’s of simple work, but totally worth it!!

You totally use a ribbon to hang this wreath, but I cut a slit into the straw wreath with a knife, and stuck the end of the wreath hanger into the hole.  Perfect fit!!

I’ll be linking up this wreath HERE this week!!

Simple Asymmetrical Block Quilt

I LOVE aqua, black, and white together.  I happened to have some scraps in my fabric stash, and wanted to put them together somehow…

This is what I came up with!  The white border fabric is actually from an old sheet!

This was a quilt I made as a gift.  I can’t say for who just yet, (just in case on the off chance they read my blog:)

I love the super soft minky on the back, isn’t this color rich and yummy!!

I decided to personalize it a bit, by adding the year of their wedding date…

Just a simple applique.

I love making quilts!!

Tuesday Tutorial: Painted Doily Canvas Bag & Giveaway

***Giveaway now closed***

My kiddos are starting school today!!!  Where in the world did our summer go!!!

Last week we had lots of fun shopping for school clothes, school supplies, meeting our teachers, and doing all things school related…

I’m already sooo impressed with my kids’ teachers, I wanted to make them a little goody bag with some handy dandy items for the school year.

I saw this darling idea on Pinterest… and followed the tutorial found HERE.

This is another super simple gift idea that would work for any occasion!! Would you like to make one??!!  Grab your supplies and let’s get to it:)

I decided to place one of the doilies in the center of the bag, and one of them toward the corner of the bag.

Cover the entire outer edge of the doily.

You should do this while the fabric paint is still wet.

This is how the bag looks with the doily along the corner…

I found this free printable HERE, and decided to frame it, and throw it in with the mix…

My mom just happens to be a totally awesome 2nd grade teacher.  She mentioned a few items that are always nice to have throughout the year:  clorox wipes, kleenex, hand sanitizer, and ziploc bags.

The only thing missing is a personalized tag from my little student:)

Here’s another look at the other bag…

My little rascals on their last “free” summer evening!

Hope you all survive your “back to school” weeks!!

Fabric Streamers add such a whimsical, festive, touch!!

Add some lights, and what do we have… Magic!!

Makes me want to snuggle up with a cozy quilt and enjoy the night lights!!

Chic Modern Wedding Quilt

So I have a confession.  Yup, another one.  Ok, ya ready…

Quilting is my favorite.

Don’t get me wrong, crafting is soooo much fun, re-purposing, decorating, baking, all SOOOO fun!!

But I started this whole crafty journey with sewing blankets and quilts,

(my 1st baby blanket, hee hee)

and that’s what I still love to do:)

So when my best friend asked me to help her make a quilt for her friend’s wedding gift, I was jumping for joy!!

She picked out the most gorgeous fabric (I don’t know the name of the line, but if any of you recognize it, let me know:), we figured out a pattern, and whipped up this gorgeous quilt!!

The back side is made with oh so soft minky:)

Machine quilted with loops…

This was a hard one to give away…  One of these days, I will make one to keep:)

Tuesday Tutorial: Sassy Girl Purse

My little 4 year old “fashionista” has been begging me for a Hello Kitty purse. She is obsessed right now with Hello Kitty! So after looking for a few months for some cute Hello Kitty fabric, we finally found this cute fabric at The Cotton Shop in Provo.

I have been making adult purses for a while so I took all the techniques from many pattern’s I have used to make this darling little bag. I used her favorite Jonas Bro. purse for my inspiration.

It was so fun to make her something I knew she would LOVE

Materials Needed:

  • Little Girls Handbag to trace
  • 1/4 yard of fabric for the outside print, purse strap
  • 1/4 yard of fabric for the inside of the bag, pocket and Tab for the O Ring
  • 1/4 yard of fusible fleece
  • 1/2 yard of woven interfacing
  • 2 sheets of paper to draw purse pattern on
  • 1/8 yard of Knit fabric
  • 5 inch circle of matching felt (match to the knit fabric)
  • 2 O Rings
  • Rotary Cutter and Mat, scissors
  • Sewing machine

Trace half the bag on to half of the paper, trace 1/2″ around the purse

Fold the Paper in 1/2 so that half of the pattern is showing and it’s even, cut the pattern out on the fold

Fold in half and in the lower corner draw a small 3/4″ triangle

This is what the pattern looks like unfolded

Using your pattern, cut out two from both fabrics, 2 from the fusible fleece and 2 from the woven interfacing

Iron the Woven interfacing to the wrong side of the two outside fabrics. And iron the fusible fleece to the wrong sides of the inside pieces.

I’m sure most know how to make a pocket :) Center the pocket on the inside fabric piece

I Reinforce the pocket because I know my little one is rough on her stuff!

Next, Sew the triangle closed. pinch them so right sides are together, sew 1/4″ from the edge (If this is confusing, email me and I will try and explain it better)

Here is another pic, of what I mean by sewing the triangles

Here is what it should look like once you have sewn them

Next, place the two outside pieces right side together and sew all the way from the top right, to the top left, Leave a 3 inch. opening at the bottom. Repeat for the Outside 2 pieces of fabric except, do NOT leave a opening in the bottom. Set aside

Cut a 1 inch x 58 inch piece of knit, ruffle it up. For more detailed instructions on how to ruffle go HERE

Pin the Ruffle to the Felt circle and either hand stitch it or machine sew it to the felt.

I can’t believe I FORGOT to take a picture of this step, Center and pin the flower on to the front of the purse and sew it on

Turn the inside (my pink polka-dot fabric) piece of fabric wrong side out. Place the outside (my Hello Kitty purse- piece) fabric into the (pink polka dot piece) fabric piece, so that RIGHT sides are facing each other.  Sew around 1/4″ from the top edge

Here is what it should look like when the top edge is sewn all the way around

Pull the Outer fabric through the opening in the inside  piece of fabric.

Sew 1/4″ around the top edge of the purse

Assemble the Purse Handle: Cut  2- 4.5″ x 5″ squares (of the inside print)

Cut 20″ x 6″ of the Main fabric and the woven interfacing. Iron on the interfacing

Long ways, iron in the outer edges in to the middle. And press in place, in half. Sew down a 1/8″ from both edges

Fold the fabric in half and add thread the O Ring. Sew a 1/4″ from the edge. Then turn it out so the raw edge is tucked in.

Pin The O rings evenly to the sides of the purse

sew a small square on the tab to secure to the purse. (My machine needle was so dull and I was out of needles that I had to hand stitch mine! err! but it worked out okay)

For the purse handle, Iron the (Short) ends 1/4″ in on both ends. Length wise, Iron the edges in to the middle and then in half. Sew 1/8″ all the way around the strip.

Attach the strap through the O ring and sew.

Don’t forget to sew the 3″ opening closed on the inside of the purse…

That’s it! Hope your little Sassy girl enjoys her new bag!

Tuesday Tutorial: Downeast Inspired Pleated Lace Shirt

Isn’t this top from Downeast gorgeous!! I LOVE the pleats across the whole shirt. This was my inspiration, but I wanted to add a little more…
How about some feminine lace to add a little flare:)Wanna make one too?  It’s really easy, and super affordable!!
Supplies:

  • 2 knit shirts (one to wear, one to cut up)  I used a tank top for one of mine
  • a spool of lace
  • ruler
  • cutting mat and rotary cutters
  • sewing machine, thread, and pins

(These shirts were an additional 30% off!!  Gotta love a bargain:)

Step 1:
Measure your shirt and decide where you want the fabric strips placed.Place pins in the shirt to mark, and measure from one pin to the other to decide how long to cut your strips.  Also decide about how many strips you’ll need to cover the entire length of the shirt.

Step 2:  Cut open your second shirt at one of the side seams.Next, cut one side into a nice large rectangle that you will use to cut your strips.  Begin cutting the shirt into strips that are the same length you measured. You’ll need 6 shorter ones for the top of the shirt near the shoulder and neck area.  I cut them all different width to add dimension. Now cut a few lace pieces to be the same length as your strips.  I cut 4, (that was ll I had left on my roll) but cut as many as you would like.

Step 3:  Iron a few of the strips in half to make them curl slightly and add more dimension.

Step 4:  I started out pinning a bunch of strips on at a time, and then sewing them all on at once, but I found it was easier to keep them straight if I did them one at a time.  So begin by pinning each end of the strip to the shirt, add another pin to the middle, and slowly stitch the strip to the shirt in a straight line, removing the pins as you go.

Repeat for all the strips.

Step 5:  Clip all your threads and you’re done!!

You just saved $10 on a shirt!
