DIY Baby Crib Mobile

I saw this darling crib mobile on Pinterest and of course pinned it for later… I finally got around to making one for baby Crosby!!  I LOVE how it turned out!!!

I followed THIS tutorial to make the circles.  And I opted out of the painted beads at the top, and used a simple ribbon instead.  The hardest part about this project was probably cutting out all 104 circles!!!  But other than that, a very simple project:)

More baby stuff to come:)  Thanks for sticking around!!!

Finally!!! the Baby Bedding is Done…

So I ordered THIS fabric for baby Crosby FOREVER ago, and have slowly but surely been plugging along making things here and there, until I can say now I am finally DONE!!

I found some really simple tutorials online for a pleated crib skirt and bumper pads, which helped take some of the thinking out of it:)

I altered them a little to fit our crib, and to look a little more boyish…

For the quilt, I just drew out a pattern and sewed it up:)

Of course  it needed super soft minky for the back:)

And the pillow had to have pendants!!

I’ll show ya the crib mobile tomorrow, and some other little goodies too:)

Tuesday Tutorial: Getting Ready for Baby w/ Tiny Tabs Ribbon Blankets

So I’ve been going through my fabric stash, and OH MY WORD, do I have a ton of scraps.  I’m bringing back a blast post tutorial from the past, to show you what you can do with your scraps!!!!

And if you’re expecting a baby (like me) or need a shower gift, these are perfect!!  Here are a few I whipped up using my scraps…

Besides quilting, this is my most favorite thing to make.  Do I say that about every post?   Maybe, but this time it’s for real:)

These little blankets are literally mini quilts, with ribbons attached to the edges.  Babies and children alike love the texture of tags and ribbons, making these perfect to “tag-along.”

What you need:

  • self-healing cutting mat

  • rotary cutter

  • ruler

  • sewing machine and thread

  • pins

  • batting

  • scraps of cute material

  • coordinating minkie

  • five or more spools of coordinating ribbon

Step 1

Decide how big you would like your quilt top to be.  A good size is approximately 20X20 inches.  Cut your fabric into whatever pieces you would like for your blanket top.  This can be as simple or intricate as you would like.

Lay out your fabric design and pin right sides together.

Sew your pieces right sides together.

Iron your seams so that they lay flat open.

Step 2

Measure your ironed, finished blanket top, and cut your batting and your minkie back to the exact size as the top.

You’ll need to choose five to six different ribbons coordinating with the fabric of the blanket top. Cut four strips (so you’ll have five or six tabs per side) of each ribbon varying in size from three to six inches to form crossovers, single strands, or loops.

Step 3

Next, lay your blanket top over the batting with the right side facing up, and line up the two pieces as close as you can.

You will then pin your ribbons around the edges of the blanket so that they’re pointing toward the center of the blanket.  Pin them both to the blanket top and the batting behind.

Next, sew a very small seam (no more than 1/4 inch) around all sides to hold your ribbons down in place.

Step 4

Lay your minkie square on top of the blanket top and ribbons, with the right sides together.  Pin in place.  Make sure you pin it well, the minkie shifts quite a bit.

Sew another small seam (no more than 1/4 inch) around the sides of the blanket leaving about 3 or 4 inches open at one corner.

(UPDATE, I prefer to leave my opening closer to the center of one side, it’s easier to sew when it’s all flipped out:)

Pull your blanket from the inside out so that all the ribbons are poking out, and smooth out all corners and seams. You’ll then need to close your opening, sewing as close to the edge of the blanket as possible.

Next, sew a decorative or straight stitch around all sides of the blanket.

Clip all threads and press your finished Tiny Tabs Ribbon Blanket.

Here are a few more:)

Some more good eats, and a baby bunting banner too…

I’m having fun with these yarn balls!!!  And here you can see the fabric I love so much:)

Tuesday Tutorial: Guest Post, Little Prince’s Tunic

I’m so excited to have our first guest tutorial on Just Sew Sassy!!

Kimberly from Mommyhood Craft Corner, is bursting with talent and inspiration!  Are you looking for some darling projects to do with your kids, go check out her blog!!  I can’t for you to see what she has for us today, but first check out some of my favorite projects she has made…

I LOVE this seed pack tutorial

Need a cute idea for a little girl’s birthday party, check out this adorable princess party!!

And I think this artwork box is such a clever way to store your kid’s masterpieces:)

Alright Kimberly, take it away!!!

Thank you so much for allowing me to share this tutorial with you!  My name is Kimberly and I share my children’s craft projects at my blog Mommyhood Craft Corner; I’m so glad to be here at Just Sew Sassy!

This photo is of my one year old son dressed as a prince (minus a crown) for his sister’s princess-themed 4th birthday party. My daughter was decked out in all her princess glory, and it seemed appropriate that the little guy should get to dress up, too, so I gathered a few craft supplies I had on hand and made this little Prince’s Tunic for my little boy.

It’s very easy, because this tunic is made with felt and materials that don’t have to be hemmed. And if you aren’t handy with a needle and thread, I would assume you could use craft or fabric glue of some kind to get the job done, as well!

Little Prince’s Tunic

This tunic should fit children wearing size 24 months and under. You can trim the felt down to fit much younger babies, as well. I “eye-balled” everything when making this little tunic and made it up as I went along, so the instructions do not have precise measurements, but they should guide you through theprocess just fine. Let’s get started…

Materials:

  • 2 sheets of felt for the body

  • 1 sheet of felt for the front design

  • Ribbon for initial and shoulders

  • Beads for decoration

  • Needle and thread (or glue)

  • Pins for securing while stitching

  • Scissors

Step 1: Design the front of the tunic.

  • From a sheet of felt, freehand draw and cut a shield-like shape or any shape you like for the front of the tunic. Secure it with pins onto the center of the piece of felt you want to be the front of the tunic and stitch it on.

  • Next, cut some ribbon to the length necessary for creating your child’s initial and stitch it on top.

  • Finally, stitch on some beads for a little extra dose of royalty.

Step 2: Create the form of the tunic.

  • Cut the bottom edge of the sheets of felt which will be the front and back of the tunic. I just curved the corners, but you could do something more creative (like a scalloped edge or “dental molding” shape). You can draw your cut lines onto the inside of the felt before actually cutting, if you like.

  • Lay the two pieces of felt on top of each other and cut the scoop at the top which will be the neckline. You may want to start small and then keep cutting it larger until you feel confident that your child’s head will fit through.

Step 3: Create the shoulders.

  • Lay the front and back pieces of your tunic on top of one of another with the wrong sides out.

  • Now stitch along the edge of each shoulder to secure the sheets of felt together.

Step 4: Embellish the shoulders.

  • With the same (or different) ribbon you used for the initial on the front of the tunic, cut two lengths of ribbon to be used on the shoulders. Cut your ribbon pieces a little longer than the width of the shoulder they will be attached to, so you will have some length to tuck underneath at the edges.

  • Now pin your ribbons in place with the edges tucked under and stitch them on.

  • Add a few more beads across each ribbon (you can’t see them well in my photos, but they are there).

You’re done! Now find your precious little prince, dress him up, and party!

His sword was created with a bubble wand and some cardboard painted green. Watch him and Grandma taking out those ferocious balloons from his sister’s birthday party! What a handsome little fella!

Thanks for stopping by Kimberly!!

Tuesday Tutorial: How to Make a Diaper Cake

So yesterday we had cupcakes:)  This is a continuation of the Dr. Seuss Baby Shower I threw for my cute little sis-in-law.

A diaper cake is a fabulous way to decorate, and a great gift for new moms (Hello, diapers!!)

I LOVE these colors together!!

Would you like to make one?

Gather your supplies, and let’s do it!!

Just keep stuffing them inside the rubber band…

Make sure your top layer is even with the center.

For the display table I decided the tulle was a little much, so I added another ribbon to the top, and some paper shavings for more color!!  (Sorry about the dumb spoon handle in the way:)

Lovin Me Some Argyle!

Ok, so this is another re-post, courtesy of our server fail!!

Anyway!  My darling cousing Jax, from Aly and Ash, just had her second baby boy, and he is A-dorable…  I helped her make some nursery bedding for this precious little bundle (more picture coming soon) but my favorite piece of all would have to be the quilt!!

Aren’t these colors and fabrics amazing!!  Jax has excellent taste, what can I say!!  I am sooo loving that snuggly minky on the back.

This was by far the most challenging quilt I’ve ever made, but sooo worth it!  I LOVE how it turned out!
