Baby Shower Features
My good friends and I had the opportunity to throw a baby shower for a couple of cute girls in our neighborhood. Both were having girls, and I had some leftover Riley Blake fabric, which I kind of used as the “theme” or color scheme of the shower.
Nothing fancy, but here are a couple of features…
Found the recipe for these cupcakes HERE, homemade strawberry cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, YES please!!
Some more good eats, and a baby bunting banner too…
I’m having fun with these yarn balls!!! And here you can see the fabric I love so much:)
Baby Shower = Diaper Cakes RIGHT!!!!

And baby onesies of course…

And I think this artwork box is such a clever way to store your kid’s masterpieces:)
Alright Kimberly, take it away!!!
Thank you so much for allowing me to share this tutorial with you! My name is Kimberly and I share my children’s craft projects at my blog Mommyhood Craft Corner; I’m so glad to be here at Just Sew Sassy!
This photo is of my one year old son dressed as a prince (minus a crown) for his sister’s princess-themed 4th birthday party. My daughter was decked out in all her princess glory, and it seemed appropriate that the little guy should get to dress up, too, so I gathered a few craft supplies I had on hand and made this little Prince’s Tunic for my little boy.
It’s very easy, because this tunic is made with felt and materials that don’t have to be hemmed. And if you aren’t handy with a needle and thread, I would assume you could use craft or fabric glue of some kind to get the job done, as well!
Little Prince’s Tunic
This tunic should fit children wearing size 24 months and under. You can trim the felt down to fit much younger babies, as well. I “eye-balled” everything when making this little tunic and made it up as I went along, so the instructions do not have precise measurements, but they should guide you through theprocess just fine. Let’s get started…
Materials:
-
2 sheets of felt for the body
-
1 sheet of felt for the front design
-
Ribbon for initial and shoulders
-
Beads for decoration
-
Needle and thread (or glue)
-
Pins for securing while stitching
-
Scissors
Step 1: Design the front of the tunic.
-
From a sheet of felt, freehand draw and cut a shield-like shape or any shape you like for the front of the tunic. Secure it with pins onto the center of the piece of felt you want to be the front of the tunic and stitch it on.
-
Next, cut some ribbon to the length necessary for creating your child’s initial and stitch it on top.
-
Finally, stitch on some beads for a little extra dose of royalty.
Step 2: Create the form of the tunic.
-
Cut the bottom edge of the sheets of felt which will be the front and back of the tunic. I just curved the corners, but you could do something more creative (like a scalloped edge or “dental molding” shape). You can draw your cut lines onto the inside of the felt before actually cutting, if you like.
-
Lay the two pieces of felt on top of each other and cut the scoop at the top which will be the neckline. You may want to start small and then keep cutting it larger until you feel confident that your child’s head will fit through.
Step 3: Create the shoulders.
-
Lay the front and back pieces of your tunic on top of one of another with the wrong sides out.
-
Now stitch along the edge of each shoulder to secure the sheets of felt together.
Step 4: Embellish the shoulders.
-
With the same (or different) ribbon you used for the initial on the front of the tunic, cut two lengths of ribbon to be used on the shoulders. Cut your ribbon pieces a little longer than the width of the shoulder they will be attached to, so you will have some length to tuck underneath at the edges.
-
Now pin your ribbons in place with the edges tucked under and stitch them on.
-
Add a few more beads across each ribbon (you can’t see them well in my photos, but they are there).
You’re done! Now find your precious little prince, dress him up, and party!
His sword was created with a bubble wand and some cardboard painted green. Watch him and Grandma taking out those ferocious balloons from his sister’s birthday party! What a handsome little fella!
Thanks for stopping by Kimberly!!

Tuesday Tutorial: How to Make a Diaper Cake
So yesterday we had cupcakes:) This is a continuation of the Dr. Seuss Baby Shower I threw for my cute little sis-in-law.
A diaper cake is a fabulous way to decorate, and a great gift for new moms (Hello, diapers!!)
I LOVE these colors together!!
Would you like to make one?
Gather your supplies, and let’s do it!!
Just keep stuffing them inside the rubber band…
Make sure your top layer is even with the center.
For the display table I decided the tulle was a little much, so I added another ribbon to the top, and some paper shavings for more color!! (Sorry about the dumb spoon handle in the way:)

I am so excited that my sister- in laws are having all these baby girls! I am having a blast making them these girly shower gift sets.
This Damask print set included a super soft changing pad clutch, boutique wipes case and terry cloth burp pads. I am in LOVE with this fabric from Hobby Lobby.
And I am loving this Riley Blake fabric that my sister in law picked out. Here is what I came up with…
A boutique wipes case, a yo-yo appliqued onesie and a matching yo-yo head band.
Well I had a blast making these! I’m so excited to meet our new little niece! Congrats girls on your new additions!

Ok, so this is another re-post, courtesy of our server fail!!
Anyway! My darling cousing Jax, from Aly and Ash, just had her second baby boy, and he is A-dorable… I helped her make some nursery bedding for this precious little bundle (more picture coming soon) but my favorite piece of all would have to be the quilt!!
Aren’t these colors and fabrics amazing!! Jax has excellent taste, what can I say!! I am sooo loving that snuggly minky on the back.
This was by far the most challenging quilt I’ve ever made, but sooo worth it! I LOVE how it turned out!

Tuesday Tutorial: Burp Cloths, from Scraps to Sets
Ever made a really cute receiving blanket, quilt, or any baby related item?
Ok, even if you haven’t you probably have some cute leftover fabric or scraps that you could totally use for burp cloths. I love this line from Riley Blake!!
Ok, if you don’t have leftover scraps, it doesn’t take much fabric to make one of these babies.
This is one of the easiest (but I think it’s super fun) sewing crafts you can do.
From Scraps to Burp Cloth Sets…
Supplies:
cloth diapers (I love the Bird’s Eye brand that’s super cushy and padded in the center) fabric scraps thread any additional embellishments (ribbon, ric-rac, other scraps) self healing cutting mat rotary cutter ruler sewing machine
Directions:
Step 1:
Wash all your cloth diapers in hot water, and all your fabrics you plan to use.
Step 2:
Press your cloth diapers and fabrics. Measure the length of the cloth diaper, and the width of the padded center. Cut your fabric length so it extends over the edge about 1 inch on each side, I cut mine 18 inches long and for the width I cut it 5 inches.
Step 3:
Pin the strip of fabric to the center of the cloth diaper, covering the padded area completely.
Fold the strip over the edge and pin.
Before sewing in place, make sure your bobbin thread is white. Top stitch along all edges of fabric using a 1/4 inch seam.
Step 4:
If using any extra fabric pieces, ribbon, or ric-rac, pin in place over your strip of fabric. Top stitch.
TaDa!!!
Simple right!!!
Make a few, stack ‘em up nice and neat, tie a ribbon around them, and voila, easiest cutest baby gift:)

Simple Applique Onesies
Ok, so I’m am sooo far away from an artist, but I still managed to come up with two simple templates to applique onto onesies! Cupcakes and birdies seem to be all the hype lately, b/c they’re so darling!!!
Check it out,
I use Heat-N-Bond, but you can use any iron on applique product that you like.
Cut out each individual piece of your template and pin it onto your desired fabric pieces. At this ponit it doesn’t matter which side.
Cut them out and lay them onto your Heat-n-Bond
Place your iron on top for 2 seconds to let it bond to the fabric. Cut out your shapes and peel off the paper backing. Place the fabric, adhesive side down onto your onesie, or desired surface.
Place iron on top of the fabric design for about 8 seconds until it adheres.
Machine or hand stich around the outside of your design, (I used my sewing machine and had to stop a few times for tight turns), but it goes pretty quickly.
Simple right!!! Next time, I may shrink them down a bit… But it’s a fun and easy way to use leftover fabric, and coordinate with blankets and sets.
