Halloween Recap…

What a stressful busy week!!  I think I like the days leading up to Halloween better than the actual day. -K- Going into complaining mode for a sec.  I’ve had bronchitis, a sinus infection, cough, and pregnancy related nausea and sickness for the last MONTH and that may be why I sound like such a scrooge!! -K- moving on:)

Don’t get me wrong,  the decorating is fun…

Cornbellys is fun…

Pumpkins are fun…

Parades and parties are fun…

Making costumes is fun rewarding…

BTW.  One of our fabulous sponsors, the talented Kirsti from Kirsti Koo sent me a pattern to try out for my litte Batman wanna-be, and it was PERFECT!!  Really simple directions, easy to follow, and my son is in LOVE with his costume!!  Thank you Kirsti!!!

And trick-or-treating is fun… (although I think I like handing out the candy just as much:)

They lasted longer than I thought they would, and made out with TONZ of candy!!!  It was an AWESOME Halloween season!!

But tomorrow I think I’m ready to drink hot cocoa and make my Christmas playlist… Are you guys gearing up for the Holidays too!!!

Tuesday Tutorial: Wickedly Yarn Wrapped Halloween Wreath

So I absolutely ADORE my kids’ preschool teacher!   She’s seriously amazing.  So I was thrilled when she asked me to dress up her class door with a Halloween wreath.

I’ve seen lots of yarn wrapped wreaths all over Blogland, and decided to make my own version.

So, go grab some supplies and let’s get started!

Step 1:

You can even mark your foam wreath where you want the different colors to begin and end, (before wrapping it with yarn.)

This is optional, but I think it adds a little something special:)

Step 2:

Attach the letters to twine with hot glue, and wrap the twine around the wreath.

Step 3:

For a simple tutorial on how to make some felt flowers, go HERE.

Hang up your Wicked Wreath just in time for trick-or-treaters!!

Halloween is almost here!!  Hope it’s a fun week for everyone!!!

projects,

and more…

065

We are so excited to be guest posting at Just Sew Sassy today!  We are Bonnie and Trish from the blog, Uncommon. We are going to share one of our all-time favorite Halloween party decorations… bat cake toppers!

bat ct supplies

Trace one bat onto the black paper for each cake topper. I used a wooden cut-out from Michaels for my template.

052b

Cut out the bats.

054

Hot glue the florist wire to the back of the bat.

I washed mine, patted it dry, and colored it black with a non-toxic marker, but you could leave it white or silver.

056

Now place them in your cake at different heights.  You may need to clip your wire to make it shorter.  That’s it!  I was so excited to use my new cake stand!  Isn’t it so adorable?  Stay tuned for the tutorial on the cake stands on our blog, Uncommon!

Tuesday Tutorial: Rolled Burlap and Rosette Fall Wreath

I’ve decided to try my chances at Crafting with the Stars and thought this burlap wreath would be a fun entry!

Come check it out, and join in the fun!!  Who knows, the number of times my project is viewed may help me out:)

Thanks guys!!

I know, I know!  It’s not even September and I already have my fall decor out!  What can I say, I’m excited!!

I have to say this is my favorite wreath to date!

I LOVE burlap (you will see most of my projects involve burlap this month:)

And I tried this “printing on fabric” technique I saw on Pinterest that I’ve been wanting to try…

Shall we get started!

Here is what you will need…

(I also forgot to mention a drill, a piece of cardstock paper and E-6000 glue) Whoops!!

Step 1:

Nope Canon, it’s really not THAT soft…

Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:

Follow THIS tutorial to make a rolled fabric rosette.

I ran out of rosettes, and needed to fill in a spot, so I made a gathered ruffle flower with my leftover burlap scraps.  Follow THIS tutorial to make a gathered ruffle flower.

Step 5:  Printing on Fabric

Step 6:

You’re DONE!!  Lot’s of simple work, but totally worth it!!

You totally use a ribbon to hang this wreath, but I cut a slit into the straw wreath with a knife, and stuck the end of the wreath hanger into the hole.  Perfect fit!!

I’ll be linking up this wreath HERE this week!!

Tuesday Tutorial: Spooky Little Ghosts

Remember to check back Thursday for a special guest and brand new giveaway!!!

This is a fabulous craft to do with your kids.  Let me reiterate, “your kids.”  Unless you’re Mary Poppins.  I attempted this craft with about 10 kids at my sons’ birthday party, it was a little crazy, but the kids really liked them, and I think they’re just adorable!!

-K-  this is SUPER easy, you’ll love it!

Supplies:

  • cutting mat and rotary cutter
  • cheesecloth
  • fabric stiffener (you can get it at Joann’s or hobby lobby)
  • black felt
  • small balloons
  • paper or Styrofoam cups
  • fishing line

Step 1:

Cut your cheesecloth to the size you like.  I kept it folded in half and then half again, to make it easier, and cut up the whole package (b/c I was making 15 ghosts).  I cut them into 1nto 12 inch pieces.

Step 2:  Blow up your balloons.  Place them in the cup with the wide part of the balloon pointing up.

Step 3:  Break out your fabric stiffener, and pour it into a bowl.  (Be warned, your hands are about to turn into ooey-gooey messy hands)  Dip the cheesecloth into the bowl and coat each section one at a time.  You can unfold the cheesecloth all the way, keep it folded in half or even fourths, depending on the size you would like your ghost to be.  I unfolded one of mine all the way, and thought it was a little too long.  The rest I kept folded in half before draping it over the balloon.

Position the cheesecloth to a shape you like.

Step 4:  Wait about 15-20 minutes for the stiffener to do it’s job.  When the cheesecloth is completely dry, pop the balloon with a pin, and you’re left with a stiff, spooky ghost form.

Step 5:  Now you’re just left with some finishing touches!  Add some black felt eyes, rough up the ends.

Attach fishing line to the top (if you plan to hang your ghosts).  And voila!!  An easy, spooky, kid-friendly, Halloween craft!
